The April 28 drought monitor showed 75.4% of the US in abnormal dryness or drought, down 1.1% from the prior week. Heavy rain fell in the mid-South and Mississippi Delta, and the NWS forecast heavy rain for the southern US with cooler temperatures east of the Rockies.
Cooler and wetter conditions reduce near-term weather stress on planting, which is generally bearish for corn and soybean prices, while southern rain helps winter wheat.
