Feeder cattle futures fell sharply after the USDA February 1 Cattle on Feed report showed on-feed numbers up 1%, January placements up 11%, and marketings up 10%. Live cattle contracts also settled lower, with aggressive triple-digit losses in all but the February contract.
Higher placements and marketings point to more feeder cattle supply, which pressures feeder futures and reduces the price outlook for feeder cattle.
