Live and feeder cattle futures closed lower on Friday with sizable weekly losses, as traders focused on a proclamation allowing up to 300,000 metric tons of lean beef trimming imports over 90 days starting Sept. 1.
October live cattle settled at $211.725 and September feeders at $320.90, while Choice boxed beef fell $5.13.
A large import quota for lean trimmings adds beef supply, outweighing historically tight US cattle inventories and pushing cattle and feeder prices lower.
