Nebraska's agriculture leaders wrote to the administration urging it to prevent lasting damage to state farm exports after reports that Mexico was weighing a corn boycott. Nebraska exported 17% of its corn to Mexico in 2014, and Iowa, the top corn state, sent about 8% of its corn there last year.
Iowa Corn Growers Association leaders are weighing how to respond while still backing the president.
Mexico is a major buyer of US corn, so a boycott threat raises the risk of lower export demand and weaker US corn basis and futures if it materializes.
