A November 7 Soy Transportation Coalition report, prepared by Informa Economics, examines containerizing soybean exports along the inland waterway system. It compares container barge and rail options against bulk barge shipments to Gulf terminals.
The report says the APH container vessel could reach Gulf terminals six days faster than bulk barges.
Containerized exports could give smaller buyers access to export markets and ease West Coast congestion, but the concept is still in development and does not affect near-term soybean supply or price.
