Malaysia plans to raise the palm oil content of transport biodiesel to 20% in 2020 and industrial biofuel to 10% next year, from a 7% quota starting July. Palm oil use in biofuels is expected to reach 1.3 million tonnes annually, and a biofuel price stabilisation fund is proposed.
A higher biodiesel mandate removes palm oil from the food and export market, tightening supply and supporting prices. The stabilisation fund would keep biodiesel viable when palm prices rise.
