China's government is urging subsidies to help pig farms hit by disease restock their herds. Average lean pork factory prices in 16 provinces rose 36.9% year on year in the week to March 15, while the pig herd is down nearly 17%.
Restocking would eventually raise feed demand, but near-term tight supply keeps hog and pork prices elevated.
