USDA will hold a public hearing starting August 23 on 21 proposals to change pricing provisions and formulas across the 11 federal milk marketing orders. The proposals come after the National Milk Producers Federation requested a review, as the current system was last comprehensively revised in 2000.
Changes to class pricing formulas could alter the minimum prices handlers must pay for raw milk, affecting farm milk returns and dairy product costs. The outcome is uncertain until USDA rules on the proposals.
