ULSD diesel on the CME settled at $1.3866 a gallon on Wednesday, up 30.53 cents or 28.2% since the end of October and above its March 5 pre-pandemic settlement. Retail diesel rose to $2.548 a gallon on Thursday from $2.335 at the end of October, and wholesale rack prices jumped to $1.524.
Higher diesel costs raise freight and farm-delivery expenses for feed mills and raise ethanol and biodiesel production costs, which can support feedstock demand. Sustained crude and diesel strength adds upward pressure on energy-linked commodities.
