China has started buying new-crop feed barley at least a month earlier than usual, with around one million tonnes of French or Ukrainian barley reportedly traded for July-August 2021 shipment at about $275-$280/t CFR. French barley values jumped from an €8/t discount to parity with the September Matif wheat contract within days.
Early Chinese demand, enabled by lost Australian supply after the trade dispute, pulls European barley exports higher and tightens feed barley availability, supporting firmer European barley and feed grain prices.
