Eurogroup for Animals welcomed a planned Commission proposal, due by December 2021, to ban imports of deforestation-linked beef, soy, palm oil, wood, cocoa and coffee. The law would categorise countries by deforestation risk and apply to all origins.
A planned EU import prohibition on deforestation-linked soy and palm oil is a longer-term demand risk for these commodities in the EU, though the rules are not yet adopted.
