Unifor says about 170 container truck drivers serving the Port of Vancouver could walk off the job Friday unless better health, dental and insurance benefits and waiting-time pay are offered. Aheer Transportation, which employs 50 unionized drivers, has signed a tentative agreement, but Prudential Transportation's 120 drivers have not.
A strike would idle roughly 10 per cent of the trucks serving a port already backlogged by flood and rail disruption, adding to delays for grain and other exports. The direct price effect on feed commodities is modest.
