Brent crude futures for May delivery expired lower, closing down $5.54, or 4.8%, at $107.91 a barrel. The more active June contract fell 5.6% to $105.16 after dropping as much as $7 earlier in the session.
The decline followed the US announcing a record release of crude from its strategic reserve.
