Indian rice exporters asked the government to lift the ban on 100% broken rice exports because state stocks reached a record high at the start of February, nearly nine times the target. The ban dates to September 2022, and other grades were restricted in 2023 before curbs were eased after a record harvest.
If the ban on broken rice is lifted, extra supply from the world's biggest exporter could weigh on prices for broken rice used in African food and Asian animal feed and ethanol.
