USDA's July Cattle on Feed report showed feedlot inventories of 11.1 million head on July 1, 2025, down 2% year over year and the lowest since 1996. June placements of 1.44 million head were 8% below 2024 and the lowest in 16 years.
Low feedlot supplies and sharply reduced placements point to tighter fed cattle and feeder supplies ahead, supporting prices.
