An ET analysis finds protein inflation in India reached 5.3% in June, up from 2.6% in January, as heatwaves and higher animal feed costs pushed up chicken, milk and egg prices. Vegetarian protein inflation also rose to 3.5% in June.
Higher animal feed costs are feeding through into dairy and poultry retail prices, reflecting firm feed input demand and a tightening protein supply in India.
