Argentina's government reached a deal with maritime pilots to cut their fees by 20 per cent, ending a service stoppage that had disrupted grain and soy exports on the Parana River. Pilots resumed services immediately, and the government agreed to suspend a deregulation measure and open talks.
Restored pilot services should ease the port congestion that had delayed soy, meal, oil and grain shipments from a major exporter, which limits the risk of a short-term supply squeeze in export markets.
