The FAO and the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut launched a four-week virtual avian influenza emergency preparedness course for more than 700 veterinarians on April 25, 2023. The course follows outbreaks in 16 Latin American and Caribbean countries that have killed or required culling of about 8.5 million birds.
The training improves surveillance and response capacity in affected regions but does not alter supply or demand directly. Price impact is minimal.
