Labourers at FCI and FSD Jiribam in Manipur have staged a sit-in and ceased loading and unloading of rice bags at the Jiribam rail head since August 13. They demand raising the handling wage from Rs 2 to Rs 6 per 50kg bag and have refused the July 2019 wage.
A work stoppage at a public rice storage and rail handling point can slow movement of rice stocks in northeast India, a local supply-chain disruption with limited effect on global feed prices.
