From January 1, the China Foreign Exchange Trade System will reduce the US dollar's weighting in its yuan currency basket to about 19.9 percent from 19.46 percent, with other adjustments to euro and yen weightings. The change reshapes how the yuan is managed against major currencies.
Lowering the dollar weighting in the basket gives Beijing more room to manage the yuan against the dollar, which could influence the currency path that affects Chinese import demand for US farm goods.
