An NCGA analysis published Dec. 3 argues that potential approval of higher ethanol blends could use about 2.4 billion more bushels of corn for domestic ethanol at a 5% increase in the national blend rate.
It notes that ethanol and corn production efficiencies allow corn to serve both fuel and feed uses. The piece frames the prospect as a fuel-and-feed opportunity rather than a conflict.
A higher ethanol blend mandate would add substantial structural corn demand, which is supportive for corn prices. Higher co-product output would also add DDGS supply to the feed market.
