# President Trump's plans to import beef leave American ranchers concerned : NPR

> President Trump plans to expand imports of Argentinian beef to lower consumer prices, while also pushing to grow the domestic cattle herd through expanded grazing and reduced regulation. American ranchers, who are only recently recovering from five years of drought, wildfires and supply chain disruptions, are voicing concern about the plan. Beef prices have risen about 50% since 2020, helping cattle operations like an Idaho ranch stay in business.

## Why it matters

Higher import volumes of Argentinian beef would add supply to a tight US cattle market, which could pressure domestic cattle prices lower. Feeder and live cattle prices are the most directly exposed to this policy shift.
