# INDIA IMPOSES MAJOR RICE EXPORT BAN, TRIGGERING INFLATION FEARS

> India ordered a ban on exports of non-basmati white rice, its largest rice export category, after retail rice prices rose and late monsoon rains damaged crops. The category accounted for about 10 million tons of the country's 22 million tons of rice exports last year, roughly halving shipments by the world's largest exporter. Parboiled rice was excluded from the ban.
