# El Niño seen pushing up rice prices in 2027

> BMI, the Fitch Solutions research unit, projects global rice prices to rise nearly 18 percent on average in 2027 as a strong El Niño threatens harvests in Asia. It forecasts CBOT rough rice futures averaging $16.50/cwt in 2027, up from $14 this year, and raised its 2026 forecast to $12.90 from earlier levels.
