# Urgent budget demanded to rescue wheat and corn production in Sonora

> A Mexican lawmaker and Sonora agricultural producers urged the federal government to provide urgent budget support for wheat and corn growers. Producers said 160,000 of 320,000 hectares in the Yaqui and Mayo valleys risk being left idle this season because of poor profitability and uncertainty; the state has also had to import durum wheat for the first time in 30 years, according to the report.
