# Cebu Hog Raisers Seek Help as Live Pork Prices Plunge

> Cebu hog growers appealed to the provincial government after farmgate prices for live hogs fell as low as 105 pesos per kilo, while retail pork sold for 280–300 pesos per kilo. Growers cited competition from Negros Island and concerns about African swine fever; the governor asked the agriculture secretary to consider suspending pork imports for 60 days.

## Why it matters

Weak farmgate prices and competition from outside suppliers are pressuring local hog producers. A temporary import suspension was requested but not confirmed, so any price support from reduced imports remains uncertain.
