# Weather hampers soybean planting in Santa Catarina

> Frequent rain, wet soils, and cooler temperatures slowed soybean planting in Santa Catarina, where 20.2% of the expected area had been seeded by October 24, compared with 22.1% at the same point last season. Some areas reported poor crop emergence and replanting, although a recent drier spell may help narrow the delay.

## Why it matters

Persistent wet conditions could delay planting and threaten establishment, creating some risk to the state’s soybean production and offering modest price support. A return to drier weather could limit that risk.
