# Drought in the Amazon affects grain cargo volumes shipped through Northern Arc ports

> El Niño-related drought and high temperatures have lowered water levels on the Madeira and Tapajós rivers, reducing cargo movement through Brazil’s Northern Arc export corridor. The Tapajós is operating at about 60% of cargo capacity, and Caramuru has had to adapt shipments of concentrated soy protein from its Itaituba terminal.

## Why it matters

Reduced river capacity can constrain exports and raise the cost or delay the movement of soy-derived products, lending support to relevant export prices if the disruption persists.
