# Palm oil glut in Malaysia threatens small producers and farmers

> Malaysia’s palm oil inventories rose 24.54% month on month in September to a record 3.51 million tonnes as production increased and exports declined. With refineries buying less from independent mills, some producers are accumulating unsold crude palm oil, risking quality deterioration and reduced purchases of farmers’ fresh fruit bunches.
