# Nutrien sees strong potash demand, weakness in fertilizer prices

> Nutrien reported third-quarter earnings of 61 cents per share, below the 80 cents analysts expected, as nitrogen fertilizer sales slumped and sulfur and other production costs rose. The company said Brazilian farmers are delaying nitrogen purchases, while global potash demand remains high and US farmers are expected to catch up on fall applications. Nutrien will close its Florida phosphate mine in the first half of 2027 and has finished closing its Trinidad nitrogen plant.

## Why it matters

Strong potash demand alongside weak nitrogen sales points to firm potash pricing and softer nitrogen prices as Brazilian buyers hold back. Higher sulfur and gas costs in Europe keep the cost floor high for producers outside North America.
