# Agrifood production reports structural void and suffocates producers: UNTA

> Álvaro López Ríos, Secretary General of the Unión Nacional de Trabajadores Agrícolas (UNTA), said that around 24 support programs and institutions for the agricultural sector were dismantled in Mexico, leaving small and medium producers without formal credit, technical subsidies and hedging funds. He added that Mexico produces only 42% of its grains and oilseeds and that grain imports rose by 1.8 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2026, with corn imports for 2027 projected at about 26.5 million tonnes versus 25.6 million for 2026.
