# Ministry of Agriculture Pushes Soybean Yields to 3 Tons per Hectare to Cut Imports

> Indonesia's Deputy Agriculture Minister launched a soybean planting drive in Grobogan, Central Java, aiming to raise yields from 1.6-1.8 to 3 tons per hectare. The government plans to distribute seed aid across 50,000 hectares, targeting 150,000 tons of output. The goal is to reduce dependence on imported soybeans, which supply most domestic demand for tempeh and tofu.

## Why it matters

If yields and output rise, Indonesia would need fewer soybean imports over time, which would reduce its import demand. The effect is gradual and small relative to global soybean trade.
