# GISAID: HPAI H5N1 Bird Flu continues to circulate in the United States

> A GISAID update reports that clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 continues to circulate among US dairy cows, poultry and other animals. The CDC has confirmed 72 human cases since April 2024, and a mammalian adaptation marker was found in one farm worker. Some viruses show a change that may slightly reduce oseltamivir susceptibility.

## Why it matters

Ongoing spread in dairy and poultry raises the risk of herd and flock losses that could tighten milk and poultry supply. Any signs of human-to-human transmission would be a bigger market shock.
