# Global gas market: Between the Strait of Hormuz crisis and Europe's lowest reserves

> The IEA's Global Gas Security Review 2026, published Tuesday, finds that rising LNG supply, especially from North America, and more flexible contracts are helping markets absorb the Strait of Hormuz supply shock. LNG transit through the Strait was nearly halted, cutting Qatari and UAE loadings by more than 60 billion cubic meters between March and October, which pushed Asian and European gas prices to their highest since the 2022-2023 crisis.
