# International market: grains closed October lower

> Soybeans and corn in Chicago posted five weeks of near-uninterrupted declines as the US harvest advanced and increased supply, while investment funds reduced their bullish bets. Corn fell to US$176 per tonne, its lowest in almost four months, and soybeans dropped to US$454, the lowest since late August. The Brazilian real depreciated about 12% against the dollar after Brazil's elections, cheapening its exports and pressuring soymeal prices.

## Why it matters

A weaker real makes Brazilian soymeal and corn more competitive on export markets, pressuring feed prices globally. Forecasts of a record Brazilian soybean crop of 181.6 million tonnes weigh on prices, though a possible strong El Niño could cut output by about 10%.
