# Liquefied natural gas exports expected to drive growth in U.S. natural gas trade

> The EIA says the US is expected to become a net natural gas exporter by 2018 under its AEO2017 Reference case. LNG exports are projected to surpass pipeline exports by 2020, with five facilities providing about 9.2 Bcf/d of capacity by 2021. US pipeline exports to Mexico have also doubled since 2009.
