# Monsanto sees prolonged delay on GMO corn permits in Mexico

> Monsanto's regional director said a ban on planting GMO corn in Mexico is likely to last for years after a Mexican court upheld a 2013 ruling that halted even pilot plots. The legal battle over environmental evidence is expected to be slow. Mexico relies on imported US yellow corn for livestock feed, and those imports are expected to rise more than a fifth next season.

## Why it matters

A prolonged GMO ban keeps Mexico dependent on imported feed corn, which supports US export demand. Expected growth in yellow corn imports is mildly supportive for corn prices.
