# Chicken Prices Rreach Record High Levels Due to Bird Flu Outbreak
						 | The Poultry Site

> South Korean chicken producer prices rose 59.2% year on year to 2,690 won per kg, the highest since the Korea Broiler Council was founded in 1987. South Korea has culled more than 33 million poultry since November after a nationwide avian influenza outbreak. About half of the country's 1,500 chicken farms cannot restock chicks because quarantine authorities banned them from doing so.

## Why it matters

Heavy culling and restocking bans cut poultry supply and lift prices, and the industry expects about six months before prices stabilize. Tight Korean chicken supply supports demand for feed grains and meal, though the effect on US feed prices is limited.
