> The WMO issued an update giving a 50-60% chance of El Niño forming in mid-to-late 2017. Models show basin-wide neutral conditions persisting to June, with La Niña now seen as very unlikely. Sea surface temperatures off Ecuador and Peru rose 2.0°C or more in February and March, causing heavy rain.
