# Dumping, bird flu, cripples SA poultry and grain producers

> Country Bird Holdings CEO Marthinus Stander said poultry dumping and avian flu losses have cut South African maize demand, since local poultry producers would have used about 1.5 million tonnes of maize for feed. He said imported poultry does not use local grain, which reduces demand further, and that feed makes up 70% of poultry production costs.
