# FAO mounts comprehensive response to new cattle disease in Europe

> The FAO has launched two regional projects to prevent and control lumpy skin disease, which has spread from Turkey through the Balkans after entering Turkey in 2013. The disease is the first of its kind to emerge in Europe. The FAO is starting with a data collection and cost assessment before choosing control measures.
