# Bluetongue virus detected and dealt with in imported cattle - GOV.UK

> Bluetongue virus was detected in a number of cattle imported from France into England and Scotland, found through post-import testing. The 32 animals came from one assembly centre in an area with multiple confirmed cases since September. Movement restrictions, surveillance and culling are being applied, and the UK remains officially bluetongue-free.

## Why it matters

The detection raises disease-control concerns for livestock movements but does not affect UK exports, so the direct feed and price impact is limited.
