# South African Poultry Association Reports on Impact of Avian Flu on Poultry Industry - Parliament of South Africa

> South Africa's Portfolio Committee on Agriculture received a report from the South African Poultry Association on avian flu. No new commercial farm outbreaks were reported as of 9 January 2018, but egg and chicken production has declined steadily since June 2017, forcing reliance on imported chicken. The industry lost R954 million from culling and about 1,300 jobs.
