# French rail strike squeezes grain exporters – Customs Today Newspaper

> Three months of on-off French rail strikes, launched in protest of a planned SNCF reform, have crippled train services on strike days. ## Why it matters

Lost or delayed loadings at French ports could shift EU grain export business to competitors such as the Black Sea, supporting wheat and barley prices. Higher trucking and barge costs also raise the cost of moving the crop to port.
