# Urea price rises as some plants close down

> Urea retail prices in Pakistan have risen to Rs1,800 per 50kg bag, above the maximum retail price of Rs1,600, as several fertiliser plants have closed. Dealers are reported to be hoarding stock amid the supply gap. Officials are discussing gas supply for three closed plants to restore about one million tonnes of idle capacity.

## Why it matters

Lower domestic urea output and hoarding tighten local supply and push prices up, which raises input costs for Pakistani farmers. Restoring gas to idle plants is the main lever for easing prices.
