# Impacts of El Niño and La Niña to intensify as climate warms | NCAR & UCAR News

> An NCAR-led study published in Geophysical Research Letters finds that El Niño and La Niña events will likely cause more intense temperature, precipitation and wildfire impacts as the climate warms. Heat extremes in the southern US during a La Niña like 2011 could be about 30% greater by the end of the century.
