# Fertiliser prices shoot up in Kashmir as rupee depreciates

> Fertiliser prices in Kashmir have risen up to 25 percent in recent months as the depreciating rupee raises the cost of imported DAP and muriate of potash. DAP retail rose from Rs 1,026 per bag to Rs 1,400, and MOP from Rs 550 to Rs 950, with freight costs also rising.

## Why it matters

Currency-driven increases in imported phosphate and potash costs reflect firm import prices and a weaker rupee, which tends to reduce farmer application and affordability in India.
