# China US trade war escalates

> The US Trade Representative confirmed 10% tariffs on a range of Chinese products, including meat-based animal feed, dead animals unfit for human consumption and some pig meat, effective 24 September and rising to 25% on 1 January. China announced retaliatory duties on US meat exports from the same date, some higher than US rates.
