# EFPRA urges commission on shipping of Category 1 material - EFPRA

> The European Fat Processors and Renderers Association (EFPRA) asked the European Commission to allow continued shipments of Category 1 meat and bone meal to the UK for incineration. The EU-27 produces close to one million tonnes a year of this material, and current EU rules prohibit exporting it for incineration. A hard Brexit without a transition period would block these shipments.

## Why it matters

If shipments to the UK stop, EU supply of meat and bone meal would have no incineration outlet and could be pushed into the domestic feed-meal market, which is bearish for prices.
