# Sunflowers doing well despite drought - Grainews

> Glacier FarmMedia reports that Prairie sunflower crops are in good shape despite drier-than-normal spring conditions, since the crop roots deeply once it germinates. Statistics Canada estimates 2019 sunflower acreage at about 70,000 acres, flat from 2018, and planting seed ran short. Confection seed trades near 30 cents/lb and oilseed near 22-23 cents/lb.

## Why it matters

Dry weather favors the sunflower crop, and flat Canadian acreage suggests stable supply with no strong price signal for feed markets.
